Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire you?
There are a lot of great college advisors out there, so it’s about finding the right fit for you. I will not disclose how many Ivy League student admissions I have worked with or the full-ride scholarships I have assisted students in applying for, for example, because I am not selling the Ivory Tower dream. I am here to provide support: 100% wrap-around support during an incredibly stressful time. I am the right choice if you want an advisor or a mentor, someone who is willing to ask you tough questions so that you can make honest, informed decisions. I will hold you accountable, help you stay on top of deadlines, and take on research if you hate to do your own.
My master’s degree is focused on higher education and I have studied colleges and universities extensively. More importantly, I studied student development theory, and that means I focus on helping you find the right fit for YOU. There is nothing wrong with going to an Ivy League school (they are at the top for a reason), but my advising style is getting you into the right school, not the “it” school.
Is hiring a college application advisor worth it?
It really depends on your goals. I am not a fit for everyone and I am always upfront with families when I think it is not worth the investment for their specific situation. The added support is worth it for a lot of students and families. In addition to sharing my expertise, helping students stay organized and focused, and dramatically reducing the hours of research necessary, my goal is to reduce the stress level for both students and their parents or legal guardians. This can be an extremely frustrating time, and my goal is to help alleviate unnecessary stress that so everyone is on the same page and receives the support they need.
Who do you work with?
I work with students 10th-12th graders located within the United States. I do offer a senior only package but ideally advising starts earlier than senior year BUT it’s never too late :)
At this time I do not work with international students or students wanting to attend a performing arts school as both fields are not my speciality
How do you meet with students?
Most of my meetings are done virtually but if you reside within the Portland Metro some meetings may be in person (application workshops, etc.)
Please note, for safety and legal reasons, I do not meet with students in my home. This policy applies to students both under and over the age of 18.
Can you guarantee I will get into my dream school?
No. I do not personally work at any higher education institution, so I cannot guarantee admission. My goal as your advisor is to assist you in submitting your best application possible, coaching you through common mistakes, and making sure that you feel confident in your application.
Can you help me improve my SAT/ACT score?
Maybe yes, maybe no. What I will do is work with you to better understand how to study, when to study, and when to take the exam(s), all of which will hopefully result in an increased score. Please note: I do not perform study sessions, and I cannot guarantee an improved score.
Will you help write my essays?
I do love to write, but the answer is no. Your essay is just that, yours. During our advising sessions, we will strategize and discuss at length which topics you should focus on and how best to construct your essay. We will then have editing sessions, during which I will provide suggestions and feedback on content, style, and grammar, but I never make the changes for you. This is your story, and I am just here to help you improve the telling of it so your audience knows exactly what you are trying to say.
If I decide I no longer want your help, can I get a refund?
All services paid for are final and non-transferrable. There are no refunds, and all payment is required prior to services. I do my best to ensure all my clients are 100% satisfied with my services; however, my fees are tied to my work performed, not on the outcomes of services provided.
