Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I hire you?

There are many great college advisors, so finding the right fit matters. I focus on providing thoughtful, comprehensive support during an often overwhelming process for families. Rather than chasing prestige alone, my goal is to help families make informed, realistic decisions and identify colleges that are the right academic and financial fit. I am the right choice if you want an advisor or a mentor, someone who is willing to ask you tough questions so that you can make honest, informed decisions. I will hold you accountable, manage deadlines, and assist students in compiling a competitive and compelling college application. There is nothing wrong with going to an Ivy League school (they are at the top for a reason), but my advising style is getting you into the right school, not just the “it” school.

How do you meet with students?

Most of my meetings are done virtually but if you reside within the Portland Metro some meetings may be in person (application workshops, etc.)

Is hiring a college application advisor worth it?

It really depends on your goals. I am not a fit for everyone and I am always upfront with families when I think it is not worth the investment for their specific situation. The added support is worth it for a lot of students and families. This can be an extremely frustrating time, and my goal is to help alleviate unnecessary stress that so everyone is on the same page and receives the support they need.

Who do you work with?

I work with all high school students located within the United States. At this time I do not work with international students or students wanting to attend a performing arts school as both fields are not my specialty.

Can you guarantee I will get into my dream school?

No. I do not personally work at any higher education institution, so I cannot guarantee admission. My goal as your advisor is to assist you in submitting your best application possible, coaching you through common mistakes, and making sure that you feel confident in your application.

Can you help improve an SAT/ACT score?

It depends! I can help students understand how to study, when to study, and when to take the exam(s), all of which will hopefully result in an increased score. Please note: I do not perform study sessions, and I cannot guarantee an improved score.

Will you help write my essays?

I do love to write, but the answer is no. Your essay is just that, yours. During our advising sessions, we will strategize and discuss at length which topics you should focus on and how best to construct your essay.  I will provide suggestions and feedback on content, style, and grammar, but I never make the changes for you. This is your story, and I am here to help you craft it so your audience knows exactly what you are trying to say.

If I decide I no longer want your help, can I get a refund?

All services paid for are final and non-transferrable. There are no refunds. I do my best to ensure all my clients are 100% satisfied with my services; however, my fees are tied to my work performed, not on the outcomes of services provided.
